“To me, photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as of a precise organization of forms that give that event its proper expression.”

Composition is the tool we use as graphic artists, to help to organize the elements within the frame. It serves, among other things, as a device to direct the viewer's attention.

Review some of the links on the website to learn more about this most basic of all artistic functions.

Objectives:

  • To show that you understand and can use some simple "rules" of composition to provide structure to the images.

  • To illustrate your ability to control camera exposure

  • To become aware of the two dimensional design aspects of composing a photograph and to begin to understand the formal aspects of working within a frame.

Requirements for completion of Project 3 – use the following guidelines:

Shoot your images in CAMERA RAW

• Use “Adobe Camera Raw” to make major adjustments, then “Open Image” and immediately save as a .psd

• Use adjustment layers to improve your image, and save with layers checked as .psd

• Be sure to save both the RAW files (WITH their .xmp sidecar files) and the finished images, cropped, cleaned-up, and saved as LAYERED psd filetypes.

You should strive to make sure that all Photoshop work be performed in a "non-destructive" process.

• Save these files and bring to class.

• Label the folder as usual
